The PetriDish

The PetriDish is an interactive installation system. The experiencer will wear a VR headset, and at the same time, the consciousness will be transmitted to the internal space of the installation. The experiencer can move freely in the space, and the experiencer's field of vision follow the same motion inside the installation. During the process of exploration, the experiencer will gradually recognize the new space is still a reality. When the viewpoint moves to the border and the surrounding glass is triggered to become transparent, the outside world of the installation will be exposed, and the experiencer will see the outside scene and himself. At this time the consciousness is in the installation, and the body is outside the installation. Then, The experiencer regards the body as others. But after uses its characteristics to infer that the body is himself, the contradiction of the separation of body and mind is highlighted, demonstrating the process of consciousness transmit outside the body. The reflective world is a constructed virtual machine, and we still don't know where is our consciousness transmitted from.

The main body of the device is a metal frame with surrounding glass inside, a motor and slide mechanism on top, and an installed 360° camera. The system converts the experiencer's motion information to a three-axis signal moving transmission device, enabling the 360° camera to be positioned to match the experiencer's dynamics synchronously, the vision presented by the VR helmet is the real-time video of the 360° camera, and the surrounding glass will become transparent when triggered by the position of the experiencer.
