Internal Collection
Switching up conventions about the body and beauty, INTERNAL COLLECTION (2017), garments based on anatomy by Amy Karle depict representations of internal systems in wearable form.
Merging fashion, biology and technology, these wearable art garments are based on different aspects of the human body: the human nervous system, lung, cardiovascular system and bones/ligaments. Each of the 12 pieces in this collection is created in a different method incorporating digital manufacturing and couture sewing techniques.
This work considers identity through the body, and healing and augmenting the body. By depicting designs inspired by anatomy and internal systems that we all share, this work communicates an understanding that we are similar on the inside and when we share our likeness and what is going on inside of us, it offers an opportunity for finding beauty within ourselves and connection with others – not just physically but emotionally as well.
