Brief concept description of the submitted project/idea
This product, the Apple Tote Bag, makes use of Apple Vegan leather made from fruit peels. This is the first in many steps taken to reinvent the fashion industry, combining sustainability, material innovation and veganism to elevate the industry. We want consumers and corporates to be able to continue enjoying leather while saving animals and protecting the environment, thereby contributing to a more circular, eco-friendly economy.

Detailed description of the submitted project/idea
The fashion industry contributes to a staggering 10% of greenhouse gas emissions amongst human activities each year. Further, of all the materials used for fashion and the making of luxury products, nearly half a billion animals are needed to meet the demands, with their fibers being four of the five least environmentally friendly. This is why WE are looking to tackle these imminent issues of global warming and animal cruelty head on.
At PEEL, we look to use low impact materials to create new and exciting products, as part of an emerging trend to reinvent the fashion industry. While maintaining and even upgrading the quality of products available in the world, sustainability is at the heart of our mission. In choosing our materials and suppliers, we are committed to fulfil the following Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs): 3, 6, 9, 12, 13, 14, 15.
The launch of PEEL began six months ago, but our interest and involvement in sustainability stretches far beyond this time frame. Since April 2019, director of PEEL Lab, Jim, has been CFO of CRUST Group, a food tech start-up looking to upcycle food waste and loss into a variety of exciting and innovative products. To do so, CRUST collaborate extensively with businesses and retail partners, working with their food waste and loss and turning them into high-value products. While this is a great start to minimalizing waste and ensuring a circular economy, it is undeniable that much more has to be done to get the world to being truly sustainable, and hence PEEL, which upcycles materials in a different context. Our technology at PEEL upcycle fruit peels to leather and provides a platform to empowering corporates to join sustainable fashion, directly tackling issues of global warming and animal cruelty, which have long been the cons of the evergrowing fashion industry. -
