Geomax Rubber Innovative Products Sdn Bhd produce quality circular economy products from innovative high-performance rubber material, made from recycled nitrile rubber gloves.

Malaysia is the largest world’s producer of rubber gloves. Due to the Covid19 pandemic, demand for rubber gloves increased tremendously. Simultaneously, the rejects from production also increased. Every month, 300 tonne of rejected nitrile rubber gloves are disposed to landfills or incinerators. This caused green gas emissions which are harmful towards the environment. In addition, nitrile rubber gloves take about 200 years to decompose.

Looking at this issue, Geomax Rubber have developed the green technology to recycle these rejected nitrile rubber gloves into Eco Rubber Compound. We then use this eco compound to produce the soles for our eco footwear. Our brand, Solewell, is the first eco footwear brand made of upcycled nitrile rubber gloves. This recycled material can be used 100% to create rubber products while maintaining high rubber contents.

The soles for our flip flops are made of rejected nitrile rubber gloves, the midsole is made of eco E.V.A. foam and the straps are made of recycled natural rubber gloves and natural rubber.

Recently, the raw material prices - in almost every category - continue to escalate. The raw material in footwear manufacturing - synthetic rubber, is of no exception. The price for synthetic rubber, a substitute for the natural kind that is made from petroleum by products continues to increase. For Malaysia, the supply for this raw material is fully dependable from overseas suppliers.

Due to this rising expensive raw material, most of the local footwear manufacturers switch to Polyvinyl chloride — or PVC as it’s commonly known — is a type of synthetic plastic. PVC is the most environmentally damaging plastic. However, the impact of using PVC are the end products not durable and caused environment hazard issues. The PVC lifecycle - its production, use, and disposal -- results in the release of toxic chemicals, carcinogens including dioxin and phthalate plasticizers. These toxins can build up in the water, air and food chain.
