The study utilized the abundant invasive plant resources found in the N1C area as a designated experimental site. By conducting a comprehensive inventory of invasive plants in London and comparing it to the local resources, a map of invasive plant distribution was created. The project exclusively employed invasive plants from the region for all dyeing procedures, thereby making a significant contribution to invasive plant management and the mitigation of biodiversity loss in the area.
Regarding the dyeing process, a distinctive approach was adopted in contrast to the conventional practice of incorporating chemical components. Instead, clubmoss was employed as a substitute for chemical mordants, and various invaisve plants were utilized for multiple dyeing sessions, resulting in a diverse range of colors. Additionally, the fiber component of the project incorporated invaisve plant-based materials such as ramie fiber and nettle fiber.
The craftsmanship aspect involved the utilization of innovative machines, namely the "Implanting" machine and the "Flocking" machine. The Implanting machine represents a groundbreaking technology capable of integrating any type of fiber into any fabric, employing a mechanical structure inspired by the process of hair transplant surgery. The needle mechanism, simulating crochet patterns, enables the precise placement of fibers at the back of the fabric. Notably, this portable machine permits the implementation of various patterns and designs, facilitating versatility in fiber implantation.
The Flocking machine, on the other hand, is a modified device that has undergone redesigning of the needle ,specifically tailored to accommodate the unique characteristics of nettle and ramie fibers. This modification allows the transformation of nettle and ramie fibers into felts akin to woolen coat fabrics. By combining these two machine technologies with knitting and spinning techniques, as well as employing a regenerative production process, the project successfully realizes the amalgamation of diverse fabric forms. -
How does your work address the 3 P’s (for Planet, for People, for Profit) for Sustainability?
In my project, the Bio-Invasive Textile Library, I'm deeply committed to addressing the three pillars of sustainability: Planet, People, and Profit, in a well-rounded and meaningful way.
Planet:
My project is fundamentally rooted in preserving the planet's biodiversity. I achieve this by exclusively using invasive plants from the local N1C area for textile production. This approach not only helps control invasive species but also actively contributes to the conservation of native flora. By adopting sustainable dyeing practices that avoid harmful chemicals and instead use natural alternatives like clubmoss and invasive plants, I aim to reduce pollution and minimize the environmental impact associated with traditional textile dyeing.
People:
Human-centered innovation is at the heart of my project. I integrate cutting-edge fashion technology innovations, such as the "Implanting" and "Flocking" machines, which not only open up new avenues for employment but also provide opportunities for skill development in the fashion industry. By collaborating with local communities and educational institutions, my project promotes sustainability awareness and fosters a sense of responsibility among people.
Profit:
While my project is firmly grounded in ecological and social goals, I also recognize the importance of economic viability. By offering the fashion industry an eco-friendly alternative, my work has the potential to attract environmentally conscious consumers, thus enhancing market competitiveness. Moreover, the innovative approach to textile production, including waste reduction and resource efficiency, can lead to cost savings and improved profitability over time.
The Bio-Invasive Textile Library project embodies a holistic approach to sustainability, and I am deeply passionate about demonstrating that fashion and ecology can coexist harmoniously. I hope to set an example for a more sustainable and responsible fashion industry that prioritizes the well-being of the environment, society, and the economy. -

The Bioinvasive Textiles Library Project has a significant positive impact on biodiversity. It is a win-win solution based on close consideration of the relationship between sustainable fashion development, ecological environment, and animals. While being designed, it can also help prevent the loss of biodiversity. It uses invasive plants in London's N1C area as an experimental area to produce fibers and dyes from highly invasive plants in the area to help combat invasive plants and the loss of biodiversity in this area of London. In order to avoid the pollution of the ecological environment caused by chemical components in the dyeing process, so that the project can achieve not only sustainable results for the environment but also the sustainability of the entire process. This project uses dianthus to replace the traditional mordant in the dyeing process. The entire project does not The use of any chemical mordants minimizes the harm and pollution to the ecological environment during the dyeing process, and the waste materials from the dyeing process are used for the production and innovation of other projects. I am actually continuing to develop the project and during the upload period we are also producing related fashion products, made from 100% invasive plants. I think if given the chance, watching the entire design process of the Profile can help the judges better understand the entire project. If given the chance, I hope to upload more relevant content.
