Detailed explanation of the submitted project or idea (in English or both English and your language)
Lalaloop© Reusable cup system is a holistic smart reusable cup circulation system to avoid single-use plastic that guides consumers for easy rental - easy return of reusables in the area of takeaway, delivery, fast-food diners and catered events. A fully automated circulation system allows users to conveniently borrow and return the trackable reusable cups for their drinks as a personal tumbler. Lalaloop cup has Lalaloop© ID-unique trackable ID system for tracing its carbon emission and number of single-use cups decreased. Lalaloop rental and return machines make users pay and refund a deposit easily.
This product's previous version is already launched at June 2021 with Starbuck Korea with significant achievement.
Lalaloop reusable cup made of durable and food-safe polypropylene. The cups are also dishwasher-safe, making them easy to clean, and also fully customisable design is available for various clients. Cups are washed using a high-temperature, high-pressure cleaning system. This system uses hot water and steam to kill bacteria and other microorganisms. The cups are then dried using a hot air dryer. The cleaning system is designed to be as efficient as possible. The cups are washed in batches, and the system is constantly monitored to ensure that the cups are clean and sanitized.
Our solution includes a monitoring dashboard with secured access control that provides data and statistical reports about each stage of our collectibles; from item collection onsite, to discharge pickup, cleaning and re-distribution to back to shops for the case of reusables. Our service API allows the data communication of our system to easily be integrated with our partners or clients own applications or management systems.
Another key solution against the competition is our digital passport technology for packaging materials called LalaloopID© which is a key element to achieve true circularity. We create it to provide full traceability of packaging materials and more efficient sorting and recognition processes for smart cities and generate quantifiable ESG metrics. -
How does your work address the 3 P’s (for Planet, for People, for Profit) for Sustainability?
By region, Jeju Island – where the project first started – has saved the use of 6.48 million disposable cups, followed by Seoul and Sejong with 2.28 million and 670,000, respectively. In total, these areas, combined with a few others, have eliminated 10 million disposable cups, preventing them from entering the waste stream or the environment. This has resulted in a reduction of an estimated 293 tonnes of CO2 emissions and untold pollution in nature.

Special Prize Question 1: Is there a mechanism in place to inherit culture and industry as assets for people living in that area 100 or even 1000 years from now?
Yes. Cup was invented even before the history, and Lalaloop Reusable cups system can certainly play a role in preserving culture and industry for future generations. Single-use cup changed entire culture of beverage, but only the problem was sustainability. Lalaloop Reusable cup can easily extend to all food container, and it will change the direction of 'drinking' and 'eating' with trackable circulation system for our planet. Rental and return action to reduce and optimise resources, so it will affect all kind food and beverage business, most essential industry for people.

Special Prize Question 2: What is the positive impact on biodiversity? Is the project creating a cycle not just from a human-centered perspective but for the entire ecosystem?
Certainly, reusable cups can contribute positively to biodiversity and foster a more holistic cycle that benefits the entire ecosystem, not just humans. By reducing the reliance on disposable cups, especially those made from plastic, reusable cups can help mitigate the detrimental effects of plastic pollution on biodiversity. Single-use plastic cups are a significant contributor to plastic pollution, which poses a severe threat to biodiversity. Plastic pollution harms marine life, both directly and indirectly. Entanglement in plastic debris can lead to injuries, drowning, or starvation in animals like sea turtles, dolphins, and whales. Ingestion of plastic fragments can cause blockages, internal injuries, and even death in a wide range of marine organisms.
By replacing disposable plastic cups with reusable alternatives, we can reduce the amount of plastic waste entering our oceans and waterways, thereby protecting marine biodiversity. Reusable cups can also contribute to biodiversity conservation on land by reducing the demand for plastic production, which often involves deforestation and habitat destruction. -
Special Prize Question 3: Are you enabling new forms of collaboration with others? New forms of collaboration might include cross-industry cooperation, co-creation with consumers, or role transformations within the supply chain.
Lalaloop reusable cup can make a lot of collaboration with not only food and beverage industries, but also entertainment, events, consumers and any other cross-industries. It because cup is essential item for living, so there are already a lot of similar collaboration case. And we have digital based Lalaloop ID system which can make a lot of more action with mobiles like O2O marketing, advertising, campaign and any kind of co-working, especially with ESG action.
