ReBloom

その他
Due to humidity, typhoons, and earthquakes, local Taiwan power lines require heavy-duty crossarm components. They also decommission these parts every 10 years to ensure safety. We were shocked to learn that these retired parts are usually then directly downgraded to recycling, especially since their production is so carbon intensive and they have many qualities that make them ideal product parts. Our design, ReBloom, extends the lifecycle of these decommissioned parts by transforming them into sturdy, weather-resistant outdoor frames with minimal processing or additional parts. Observing the need for modularization to accommodate mass production while using existing specifications, we brainstormed and tested various joinery methods. The final design not only maximizes component life before recycling but also has great adaptability and allows for easy part replacement, earning praise from the utility company and being featured in a few showcases.

To-scale

Exploring the weather-resistant, standardized parts in the utility company’s parts graveyard.

ReBloom would extend the lifespan of these crossarm components at least 3 times.

We prioritized the existing part standardizations so only a few added parts and processing would be needed.
