芽吹く緑の大正池
鏡面のような美しい水面に、雄大な穂高の姿を映す大正池。
立ち枯れの木々が幻想的なようすは、上高地を代表する風景の
ひとつ。
大正池は1915年6月6日の午前に突然あらわれた池です。焼岳が
大噴火をおこし、その際に噴出した多量の泥流により梓川がせき
止められてできた。水没した林は幻想的な立ち枯れとなり、神秘の
景観をもたらしている。大正池はできた当時、梓湖と呼ばれたこと
もありますが、大正年間にできたことから今の名称が定着した。

When it was done, Taisho pond had been called a catalpa lake,
but because it could be made the Taisho year, the name now was fixed.
