Challenge description:
Find a way to calculate carbon emission in the University of Twente for both students and staff to make them aware of about their carbon footprint and to be more environmental responsible in their actions.
Description of our prototype:
1. The prototype consists of a map of UT campus and it pictures the four different types of CO2 footprint per building. a)red-High CO2 zone, b) yellow- Moderate CO2 zone, c)green- Least CO2 zone, d) blue- Neutral CO2 zone. Each zone will be implemented a dashboard that collects CO2 footprint data. After processing the collected data, they are made public in order to create awareness to the people about their CO2 emissions in their campus lifestyle.
For this challenge, the solution we implemented is the use of student-staff pass as a carbon point system for all the activities included at the campus. Every student and staff member has a limited amount of carbon points and each action they make that has environmental impact cost some points. The limit is refreshed yearly and in case of exceeding the limited points, the purchase of credit is mandatory. The incomes from the point system trade will be use by the University of Twente for tree planting.
