Steampunk 3D Printed Electric Guitar
The Steampunk is an electric guitar in which the body is 3D printed as a single component with moving parts. It is a tribute to one of the most favourite guitars of all time, the Fender Telecaster, but done with a steampunk twist and an oxidized metallic finish.
3D printing allows every guitar to be customized to the musician, and allow incredibly complex forms that would not be possible with conventional manufacturing. As a designer, it gives you the power to make almost anything you can imagine. I the case of this guitar, it allowed an exploration of what was possible to do with moving parts, which naturally led to a mechanically inspired steampunk theme.
In the case of the Steampunk, because all the design is done in a digital form we can, for example, easily see the centre of gravity of the guitar, which allows us to digitally shift material around in order to give the musician the balance they like. We also extensively customize the aesthetics of every guitar we make, and allow the customer to choose what electronics and pickups they want to use, what wood they prefer for the neck, and to customize all the other details of the guitar. This gives them an instrument that is truly made uniquely for them.
