The art of 变脸, or face-changing, is a well-kept secret known only to a select few. In this piece, ubiquitous modern technology comes right up against this enigmatic traditional art form in a performance to remember.
In traditional Chinese opera masks, red indicates a heroic, brave character – one who doesn’t bow down to the invasion of new technology and distractions. Blue, on the other hand, is neutral; an astute and fierce opponent that perfectly mimics behaviours without emotion or meaning; not learning for learning’s sake but simply achieving the results.
