Vertigo
The work "Vertigo" draws from my ongoing research on ejection seats, used mainly in military aircrafts worldwide. The ejection seat "promises" safety during wartime in moments of life threatening situations, when the pilot can eject herself/himself out of the aircraft. I found out during my research that in fact many of the pilots do not reach the ground safely after being ejected, and it is an illusion of safety.
The work reflects the illusion of safety that is "played" by the ejection seat. In my work "Vertigo, the ejection seat has turned into a small and toy-like object. I added a joystick taken from the world of digital games and simulations and covered the whole sculpture with an image of a blue sky with feather clouds - as an ironical and humorous take on this serious subject.
