現代は高度に文明化が進み、大量生産品に囲まれ多くの人にとって生活に必要な最低限の道具は満たされています。一方で大量生産が難しい領域、つまり使い手が少ない道具に多くの専門職の人々が関わることは現実的ではなく、少数の人にとって心地良く気の利いた道具を手にすることは困難を極めます。このような状況を打開するには、生活に課題を抱えた方やその周囲の人々の内的動機付けによるモノづくりが不可欠です。そのようなモノづくりを実現する上で、すでに3Dプリンターを始めとしたデジファブ機器が様々な場面で活用されていますが、美しく気の利いた道具を少量でも作れるノウハウはまだ社会に不足していると考えます。
この作品制作では、一般家庭内でも行えるFFF式3Dプリントならではの美しさや心地よさを探求し、ごく普通に使える道具にその意匠を適用することを最初の目的としてペンケースを制作しました。次の目的としてはその意匠が制作者である自分以外の人にとっても魅力的であることを証明することです。このペンケースを買いたいという声を頂き、少数ながら販売した実績があります。つまり、この意匠にはお金を払ってでも手にしたいと思って頂ける魅力を携えていると考えられます。そして最終的な目標は、大量生産品では心地の良い生活を送りにくい人たちのために、この制作を通して得たノウハウをまとめ世に出すことです。このプロジェクトは最後のノウハウをまとめる段階まで来ており、今後何らかの形で発表します。 -

In today's highly civilized world, we are surrounded by mass-produced products that provide the bare necessities of life for many people. On the other hand, it is unrealistic to expect many professionals to be involved in areas where mass production is difficult, that is, where there are few users, and it is extremely difficult for a few people to have access to comfortable and thoughtful tools. In order to overcome this situation, it is essential to create products that are internally motivated by the people who have problems in their lives and the people around them. Although 3D printers and other digifab devices are already being used in a variety of situations to realize such manufacturing, I believe that society still lacks the know-how to make even small quantities of beautiful and thoughtful tools.
In this project, I explored the beauty and comfort of FFF 3D printing, which can be done at home, and created a pen case with the first objective of applying the design to a tool that can be used in an ordinary way. The next goal is to prove that the design is attractive to people other than myself, the creator. I have sold a small number of pencil cases to people who wanted to buy them. In other words, we believe that this design has an appeal that people would be willing to pay for it. Our final goal is to put together the know-how we have gained through this project and put it out into the world for people who have difficulty leading a comfortable life with mass-produced products. This project is now at the stage of finalizing the know-how and will be published in some form in the future. -

この作品は丹念にTPUフィラメントを積層した際に現れるすりガラス状の質感をそのまま意匠に用いた、ファスナーやスライダーなどほとんど全ての部品を3Dプリンターで制作したペンケースです。この取り組みは現在進行中であり、ペンケース自体は特定の問題を解決するものではありません。この取り組みの最終目的は大量生産品では使えるものがない、あるいは少ない方達のために3Dプリンターで製造しても持ってて嬉しい美しい道具を作るノウハウをまとめることであり、このペンケースはその研究の成果を表現するメディアの一つです。
The design of this pen case is based on the frosted glass-like texture that appears when TPU filament is painstakingly laminated, and almost all parts, including the zipper and slider, are made with a 3D printer. This initiative is ongoing, and the pen case itself does not solve any specific problem. The ultimate goal of this project is to compile know-how on how to make beautiful tools that can be produced by 3D printing for people who have no or few usable mass-produced products, and this pen case is one of the media to express the results of this research.
