Grafting Organs

　《Grafting Organs》は、さまざまな昆虫と電子部品とが混入する透明な腸型の器官が、木に接ぎ木されています。昆虫とテクノロジ―などを含む、私たちをとりまくものの関係を〈エコロジーの内臓〉として具象化し、私たちが生きているところをどのようなものとして考えたらいいのか問う作品です。
　頭にGo Proを、耳にバイノーラルマイクをとりつけて虫を捕まえる様子を撮影していたとき、虫と電子デバイスが出会う瞬間に立ち会った気がしました。もちろん虫は、私が電子デバイスをつけていることに気づいてないはずです。しかし、虫と電子デバイスという、たがいを知覚しえないものが現実世界で共存しているがゆえに生じる関係性はどのようなものでしょうか。直接的ではなしにしろ、テクノロジーと虫との間に、私たちの通常の意識が及ぶ範囲外での関係性があります。この複雑さが私たちの生きるエコロジーでもあると言えるのですが、このエコロジーにおいて潜在している活動――虫とテクノロジーの間接的な関係というような――をエコロジーのもつ内臓活動としてイメージするようになりました。
　内臓から世界をとらえると、外側にあるものを吸収し、体内へと取り込むことと、外側では別々だったものが、消化されるなかで混ざりあっていくこと、この二つの観点からも自他の境は曖昧になっていきます。私が虫とテクノロジーとのあいだの連関に思いを馳せたように、私たちの存在が他の諸々の存在と、このエコロジーの内臓の中でともに消化されているとイメージすると、人間主体的な意識は希釈されます。

　この作品では虫とテクノロジーの関係を起点にして、見る人へ、とりまくものの関係を感じさせようとしています。さらにいえばエコロジーの内臓を察知した上で、私たちの制作はどのように可能なのか作品からインスピレーションを与えることができればと願っています。

"Grafting Organs" is a transparent intestine-shaped organ mixed with various insects and electronic components, grafted onto a tree. The relationship between insects, technology, and other things that surround us is embodied in the "organs of ecology. Through this work, I ask how we should think about the world we live in.
When I was filming myself catching insects with a Go Pro on my head and a binaural microphone in my ear, I felt like I was witnessing the moment when insects and electronic devices met. Of course, the insects were unaware that I was wearing an electronic device. But what is the relationship between insects and electronic devices, which are imperceptible to each other, because they coexist in the real world? Although not directly, there is a relationship between technology and insects that is outside the scope of our consciousness. This complexity is the ecology we live in. I have come to imagine the underlying activity in this ecology as the visceral activity of ecology.
What does it mean to view the world from an organ's perspective? One is to absorb what is outside and take it into the body. Secondly, things that were separate on the outside are mixed together as they are digested. From these two perspectives, I can say that taking in the world from a visceral perspective blurs the boundaries between self and others. Just as I was thinking about the relationship between insects and technology, the human-centered consciousness is diluted when we imagine that we are together with other beings in this ecological viscera.

In this work, I use the relationship between insects and technology as a starting point to make the viewer feel the relationship between the things around them. In addition, I hope that my work will inspire the viewer to think about how we can create our own work with an awareness of the internal organs of ecology.
