It is estimated that the global apparel industry produces 400 billion square meters of fabric each year, of which 15% is turned into waste during the garment manufacturing process. Taiwan discards 72,000 tons of used clothes every year, and each used clothes is worn only 7 times on average.
The Threading Tangram PLAY Kit is a fun and feasible solution for building your own sustainable wardrobe.
To keep all resources in the system out of landfill, this project efficiently activates existing idle materials by upcycling dead-stock fabric and avoids future waste production by applying zero-waste pattern cutting technique to completely divide fabric into six pattern blocks that conform to the human body dimension.
Through a simple threading action, the Tangram can be assembled into a variety of garment and accessories. Formal gowns can also be disassembled and re-threaded to transformed into bags or items for daily use. Garment will no longer be limited to only one style but will have infinite possibilities. Loved clothes last longer! Enjoy and use your creativity to define how it exists! -

Special Prize Question 1: How does your project or idea make use of local resources, such as materials and knowledge, to tackle its challenge?
This project efficiently activates existing idle materials by upcycling dead-stock fabric from Taiwan local fabric vendor and avoids future waste production by applying zero-waste pattern cutting technique which uses 100% of the fabric with no scraps or waste.
It is estimated that the global apparel industry produces 400 billion square meters of fabric each year, of which 15% is turned into waste during the garment manufacturing process due to pattern limitation. A zero-waste pattern can secure this 15% lost of the resource.
Apart from this, Taiwan discards 72,000 tons of used clothes every year, and each used clothes is worn only 7 times on average according to the record. With this project, we hope to create a fun user experience that encourages the wearer to stay attached to the garment for longer to extend the lifespan of clothes as the format of the clothes can be changed easily to meet the different needs of the wearer. -

Clothes play a vital role in society. Under the influence of fast fashion, people buy more than what they need. However, The Threading Tangram PLAY Kit aims to let the public understand that limited resources can actually create unlimited possibilities through direct experience, which can lead to a more conscious, accountable and sustainable consumer behavior.
