Paper Building Blocks

As a child my favorite toy was a box of wooden blocks, two shapes, cubes and triangles that my grandfather had made for me. With these two simply-shaped block pieces I played for hours, creating limitless structures and buildings of my own imagination. I sometimes believe it is what peaked my interest in architecture and led me to go to architecture school.
For this competition I have created something similar in concept to the wooden blocks I played with as a child. Using two different cut-out shapes of paper I created a simple puzzle with limitless possibilities of creation. These two dimensional pieces of paper can be used to create a three dimensional structure. I have played with them for hours myself and have found that the thin, cardstock paper is surprisingly structural and can create large, intriguing structures.
I came up with this design by taking two 2D patterns and combining them to create a 3D pattern and structure. The first shape is a circle with five notches in it. One of the notches goes into another circular piece to create the connection piece. The second shape is a three-pronged piece with three notches. These pieces go into the circular connection pieces. Eventually a honeycomb like structure is made that can be replicated limitlessly.
