Hanaori Minsa woven goods

Yaeyama Minsa is special woven cloth made in Ishigaki City and Taketomi Village. The Minsa cloth has traditionally been used by women as a symbol of their love to their husbands. The cloths carried with them wishes for lasting happiness in times when commuter marriages were common on the island. Still to this day, the whole process from scouring the wool, dying it, to weaving it is all done by hand. The products are popular among mainly women over 30, and the most popular items are bags and pouches. Yaeyama minsa are officially designated as traditional crafts of the island by the City of Ishigaki.
