Green Road Project: Recycle Blocks Process
The problem of plastics is becoming a very controversial issue as the amount of plastics that are being discarded per year is increasing rapidly. Some of the ways to how people are dealing with this problem of plastics is by burning and throwing it away in landfill which neither are good for the environment. Therefore, with Green Road project which is located in Chiangmai Thailand, this projects aims at breaking down plastics into smaller pieces which can be used for construction of roads, brick blocks bench and penny boards. They collect plastics from everywhere around Thailand as Green Road mentioned. Instead of burning and throwing our plastics away in landfill, this brick workshop helps us to understand how we can reuse our plastics and turn them into something useful. With using plastics mixed with cement, water, and sand it is making the road much stronger that not using the recycled plastics. Making bricks using these crushed up plastics which comes from plastic bags is another main product of this project. We can see that with this project, the outcome of using recycled plastic bags can be very useful as it can help to reduce waste that we are producing.
The objective of the brick workshop run by Dr. Pow is to have collaboration with others such as students, local communities and also organizations that are willing to give their time and energy into the process of making bricks from recycled plastic. In addition, this project aims to share the knowledge of making bricks from recycled plastic to people as we all know and should know how bad of a problem plastic is causing. As mentioned about how the brick workshop collaborate with students, a group of students from Chiang Mai University collects plastic bottles and give it to them for one of their own project which is helping out with the Mae Kha community. The students get to make their own bricks without any charges. What the workshop provide for them are the tools and knowledge on making the bricks from recycled plastics. Students used the bricks that they made and transport it to Chiangmai community and for the implementation in school and temple.
