Biography

Aisen Caro Chacin, Ph.D., artist + scientist + engineer, and Christopher Zahner, MD, Pathology Professor + post-NASA engineer co-founded ACZ Labs in 2018. Their collaboration started as co-inventors at the University of Texas Medical Branch. They participated at the NSF’s South West I-Corps for medical innovation. Their work has received national and international attention via NYTimes, ABC13, Univision, CBS, Telemundo, and Galveston Daily News. Their inventions touch all aspects of the hospital environment such as sample tracking data networks, blood mixing devices for NICU patients, nociception-repressant vibration devices, transfusion tracking systems, and lately, the pressure cuff emergency ventilator. Their enthusiasm to solve problems in complex systems such as healthcare brings them together to simplify and rethink how to better care.
