Charlie Splice (real name Charlie William Phillips), was born in Manchester in the north of England. He studied Art and Design and Fine Art at Tameside College in Greater Manchester England, before receiving a BA of Fine Art and Art History with Honours at the University of Wales Aberystwyth.
Often described as a charismatic visionary, the tortured style of his work is saturated by memories and fragmented dreams. Themes of fragility and trauma, accompanied by a sense stillness are seen throughout his work. Frequently representing the human condition in a fragile notion, he seeks to investigate and question the validity and existence of humanity .
\"The environments, subjects and situations I create often blur the line between a euphoric fantasy and horrifying nightmares. I intend to confront the viewer with visions of an abnormal beauty.\"
Charlie Phillips is a fellow member of the Neo-Outsider Art Movement. His work was short-listed, then later screened at Leeds Light Night festival in 2007.
