矢野靖人

Artistic Director

Founder and artistic director of Theatre Company shelf. Born in 1975, Nagoya city. He started to become active in theatre while he was a student at Hokkaido University.

He re-envisions classical texts from around the world by textually reconstructing them and is also known for his keen awareness of the work of his fellow contemporaries. He is also recognized for his formidable aesthetic sense in regards to space and time by drawing out the actor\'s energy onstage through evoking stillness. In the modern theater culture of Japan, his style, which concentrates on direction, is rare since almost all Japanese directors are also playwrights.

One of the shelf\'s works, \"GHOSTS-COMPOSITION/IBSEN\" has been invited as an official program to the International Ibsen Festival 2014. We also has just finished an International Co-Production successfully with artists in Thailand of shelf’s [deprived] in November 2015 and it nominated for “Best Script of a Play” in the Bangkok Theatre Festival.
