Sound Walker

音響 / その他
The Sound Walker is an Arduino based portable sound and light instrument designed to be easily assembled from cheap recyclable materials. An electronic circuit controls a loud speaker and a 1W white LED mounted in the apex of the cardboard cone, which acts as both a light reflector and sound amplifier.

To use the instrument a trigger acting as a volume control is pulled, with another knob controlling an additional parameter. As it uses an Arduino using the MOZZI sound library, it can be reprogrammed to behave in different ways. The instrument was designed with the intention of allowing groups to improvise with sound in architectural space; as it is battery powered, players can move around a space and hear the localisation cues given off from the sound bouncing off the walls and corners.

The instrument is made from two types of cardboard and MDF, all of which are laser cut and which connect with locking snap connectors cut into the edges of the material. The circuit was manufactured in China and assembled by me. During workshops, participants assemble the instrument and customise the Arduino code to make the instrument behave as they wish.
