Optical Sequencer

音響 / 彫刻 / その他
This is a simple yet effective musical interface that allows for four drum sounds to be triggered when a pattern is detected by light sensors connected to an Arduino.

I have made a few versions of this basic idea over the years, but this is the most immediate. It is at an early development stage, and has been proposed for an upcoming exhibition. The idea is that exhibition visitors can take a blank template and a black marker and draw their own rhythms. A black section means a sound will be triggered. They place the paper on a rotating platter (much as you would put a vinyl on a record player) and sound is produced.

As with all of my work, I want a range of users to be able to quickly access their own creative potential, while simultaneously learning something from the experience.
