What’s Fab?

Fab is a revolutionary creative movement taking the world by storm. It refers to when individuals create something themselves using ever-evolving digital technology such as 3D printers or laser cutters. The concept of Fab was coined by Neil Gershenfeld, a Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and incorporates the meaning of FAB-rication (personalized creations not bound by mass production or marketing) and just plain FAB-ulous! If you are interested in finding out more about FAB and what you can do with it, the following publications are great places to start! Check them out!

The FabCafe is a cafe dedicated to digital creation and houses digital fabrication tools. It’s a place to drink in the spirit of FAB, enjoy delicious food and beverages, as well as strike up a conversation with other creative minds. FabCafe opened in Tokyo’s Shibuya in 2012, and other locations are gradually opening up around the world. FabCafe Taipei opened in May 2013 and another FabCafe is slated to open its doors in Barcelona at the end of 2013.
