X's is located in Tajimi region of Gifu prefecture, the center of the oldest and largest ceramic tile industries in Japan. We have lots of mines with high-quality clay which contributed the industry, however the mines have been closed and it accelerates a development of technology for recycling materials. We, at X's have predicted this situation and have been researching recycled tiles for a long time. And We finally found our way to make recycled tiles using slag detoxified during the melting process. AKATSUKI is made by 100% recycled materials blending 40% of slag. The unique mottled texture appeared by using slag creates primitive and powerful expression in synergy with reduction firing. In addtion, low refractoriness achieved low-temperature firing cutting CO2 emission by 17-33%. -
