The starting point of this project was to explore the possibilities of laser cutting technique, despite the traditional way of sculpturing and cutting things, can I use laser cutting to turn sth from 2d to 3d and minimise the waste of the material. The project started with the experiment of drawing various patterns on paper and laser cutting them to see how the shape turns out from 2D to 3D. After a series of experiments, I designed several specific cutting pattern which can turn a single flat sheet into 3D light, with almost non material waste. And each sheet can be joined with each other as a modular system to form different shapes.

1. The main idea of this pendant design is to use the minimal amount of material and turning it to sth can be used for a long time. The laser cutting pattern I invented is not only applicable for recycled aluminium, it could be recycled paper or any other single sheet of material, it opens the possibility to turn any environmental friendly material into this Hikari pendant and be used every day.
2. Nowadays companies and manufacturers are prone to try their best to reuse material which I strongly believe in. But as a designer, while using the recycled material, I explore various ways to reduce or even avoid any material waste since recycling material costs energy as well. -

1. The design is a self-assemble light which requires the interaction between consumers and the product. And consumers can assemble them into different shapes as they prefer. I believe in this way, the product can encourage consumers to create things on their own and discover how design is transferring their life through the most common items they use everyday.
