Detailed explanation of the submitted project or idea (in English or both English and your language)
TW2W - With 200,000 tons of corn husks, PapaPaper can produce around 200 million eco-friendly paper bags. In Thailand, with a population of 66 million, if each person uses an average of 3 bags a year, this initiative could potentially eliminate PM2.5 emissions associated with conventional paper production. By adopting this innovative approach, PapaPaper not only provides sustainable alternatives but also contributes to cleaner air and a healthier environment for Thai communities. This project highlights the power of circular waste management in promoting environmental sustainability.

How does your work address the 3 P’s (for Planet, for People, for Profit) for Sustainability?
PapaPaper's sustainability model is rooted in the 3P framework: People, Planet, and Profit, which ensures a balance between social responsibility, environmental care, and business success.
People: PapaPaper is committed to supporting local communities by sourcing agricultural waste from farmers, creating jobs, and preserving traditional craftsmanship. Through ethical manufacturing practices, they empower local economies while promoting fair labor standards. This approach ensures that the company not only generates income but also contributes to social development by uplifting rural communities and providing sustainable livelihoods.
Planet: PapaPaper operates on a "BCG circular solution" model, integrating bio-based, circular, and green economy principles. By upcycling agricultural waste like corn husks into eco-friendly products, PapaPaper prevents harmful waste-burning practices that contribute to air pollution. This commitment to circular waste management significantly reduces the company's carbon footprint, helping to combat climate change and supporting Thailand’s efforts toward environmental sustainability.
Profit: PapaPaper’s product line—eco-packaging, notebooks, and greeting cards—addresses the rising demand for sustainable alternatives. The company's business model maximizes profitability by aligning with the growing eco-conscious market while maintaining low operational costs through waste-to-resource innovation. By fostering long-term sustainability, PapaPaper ensures economic viability while actively contributing to environmental protection.
This holistic 3P approach allows PapaPaper to create a positive impact on society and the environment while maintaining financial sustainability, demonstrating the potential for businesses to thrive responsibly in today’s eco-conscious world. -

Special Prize Question 1: "Empowering nature to create a new loop”: How does your work strengthen or support nature’s ability to capture and convert waste into valuable resources? How does your work advance industry practices by introducing nature-positive alternatives?
PapaPaper empowers nature by transforming agricultural waste into valuable resources, aligning its processes with natural cycles of regeneration. The company converts waste like corn husks, typically burned or discarded, into eco-friendly paper products such as packaging and stationery. By upcycling agricultural by-products, PapaPaper not only reduces waste but also supports nature’s ability to recycle resources. This approach prevents harmful emissions from burning waste, which contributes to air pollution, and reduces the demand for virgin materials, preserving forests and biodiversity.
PapaPaper operates on a circular economy model, which closely mirrors how ecosystems naturally recycle organic matter. Instead of relying on a linear production process that consumes resources and generates waste, the company focuses on optimizing the reuse of materials, reducing the need for new resources. This circular waste management practice strengthens nature’s ability to maintain balance and regeneration, and it advances industry practices by offering an innovative, nature-positive solution to waste management.
The company's no-burn practices further reduce pollution, specifically helping to mitigate PM2.5 emissions, which are a significant contributor to poor air quality. By preventing the burning of agricultural waste, PapaPaper helps reduce the carbon footprint of its production processes, directly contributing to global efforts toward net zero and carbon neutrality.
PapaPaper’s work demonstrates that businesses can align with nature to create sustainable solutions. By reducing pollution, preserving natural resources, and advancing circular waste management, PapaPaper not only strengthens nature’s ability to thrive but also provides a model for how industries can adopt nature-positive alternatives that foster long-term environmental and social sustainability. This innovative approach contributes to both climate action and sustainable economic development. -
Special Prize Question 2: “Regenerating ecosystems”: In what inspiring ways does your work contribute to the restoration and stabilization of natural ecosystems?
PapaPaper's work contributes to the restoration and stabilization of natural ecosystems in several inspiring ways:
1. Upcycling Agricultural Waste: By transforming agricultural by-products like corn husks into paper products, PapaPaper prevents these materials from being burned or left to decompose, which typically contributes to air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. This approach helps reduce the environmental stress on ecosystems, particularly by lowering carbon emissions and preventing deforestation. It preserves natural habitats that would otherwise be impacted by the demand for virgin materials like wood pulp.
2. No-Burn Practices: By avoiding the common practice of burning agricultural waste, PapaPaper reduces harmful pollutants like PM2.5, which are known to degrade air quality and harm plant and animal life. These practices contribute to cleaner air and healthier ecosystems, particularly in rural areas where burning crops is prevalent.
3. Promoting Circular Economy: PapaPaper’s circular waste management model ensures that resources are continually reused rather than discarded, reducing the extraction of raw materials and allowing ecosystems to regenerate. This helps restore balance to natural cycles, as fewer forests are cut down and less land is disturbed for raw materials. It fosters sustainable resource use, allowing ecosystems to stabilize and recover from over-exploitation.
4. Reducing Carbon Footprint: By using eco-friendly processes and upcycled materials, PapaPaper helps mitigate climate change, which is a key factor in ecosystem destabilization. Lower carbon emissions contribute to less global warming, preserving biodiversity and stabilizing natural systems that are sensitive to climate fluctuations.
Through these initiatives, PapaPaper not only avoids further damage to ecosystems but also actively contributes to their regeneration by reducing pollution, conserving natural resources, and promoting sustainable, eco-friendly production practices. -
Special Prize Question 3: “Education and storytelling”: How does your work make complex bioeconomy concepts accessible and engaging?
PapaPaper makes complex bioeconomy concepts accessible and engaging by focusing on practical applications and storytelling that connect with everyday life and community values. Here’s how the company achieves this:
1. Simplifying Circular Economy Concepts: PapaPaper communicates the bioeconomy through its use of upcycling agricultural waste, such as corn husks, into paper products. This process highlights the circular economy in an easy-to-understand way by showing how waste can be transformed into valuable resources rather than discarded. By making this concept tangible, people can relate it to their daily lives and understand how circular practices contribute to sustainability.
2. Hands-on Learning and Local Engagement: PapaPaper engages with local communities by showcasing how traditional craftsmanship, like mulberry paper-making, can be integrated with eco-friendly innovations. Through workshops and local partnerships, the company educates farmers and artisans on sustainable practices, helping them understand their role in a larger bioeconomy. This direct involvement makes the broader concepts more relevant and understandable.
3. Visual Storytelling: The company uses visual storytelling in its marketing and educational campaigns to break down complex ideas like carbon neutrality and net zero emissions. By demonstrating how their no-burn practices and resource optimization reduce carbon footprints, PapaPaper translates scientific concepts into engaging narratives that resonate with both local and global audiences.
4. Showcasing Impact: PapaPaper shares success stories and the environmental and social benefits of their products, making it clear how bioeconomy solutions positively affect the planet. This storytelling not only educates but also inspires consumers and businesses to adopt sustainable practices.
By connecting bioeconomy concepts to real-world outcomes, such as cleaner air, reduced waste, and community well-being, PapaPaper simplifies complex ideas and encourages broader participation in sustainability efforts.
