ExMetal

This is a project created under Kogei Hackathon 2017 in Japan to seek for a never-before-seen metalwork expression by using the base techniques and knowledge of traditional metalworks with a help of computational design and analysis. A team was created with two traditional metalworking craftsmen, two computer scientists and an algorithmic designer.

A shape and an expression of a craft can be established by the design idea of a craftsman and a property of a material. Though, because of an environmental factor it gives a moment of contingency between a craftsman and a material. Our goal is to seek for a new expression for metalworks by intervening computational technology to extend a craftsman's relation with a material.
