Let's Jam All Togheter!

Others
Why
Migrant children in preschool, maybe coming as refugees, are not able to speak the German language at first. Due to fragmentation in classes and grouping them due to their language skills, they form an “us” – a “me” – that excludes them from the other children.

The segmentation weakens the process of integration from the beginning, creating barriers in young years where there should be openness.

To decrease the level of stress, a third language can help to give all the children in a class the chance to communicate together in an inclusive way:

Everyone has to struggle the same way and has to learn a new language, that they will develop together, as a basis for communication.

We want to create awareness for different languages, focussing on the togetherness and interest of the children, to support the integration of migrant children.

What
We are creating a toolset for schools to decrease the “you versus me“ to open up the dynamics of the groups, and becoming an “us” together. Having an intersectional language for the children helps creating a sense of unity that is needed to act with each other.

The toolset contains a memory card game, an open dictionary with the 100 most used words divided in interests – like sports, music, and brings the children together in in a playful real-life situation.

How
The children will create a third language that doesn’t belong to anyone but themselves in a creative and playful way. By this inclusive process the integration of the children will be amplified, engaging the openness through the “pride of creation“.

What comes next?
We will get in contact with language scientists to explore how to form a language that enables to learn German for children in an engaging way.

Creating a digital platform for teachers for exchanging experiences, developing the toolset, getting feedback and valuable insights.

Furthermore, an awareness campaign about the co-creative process will be run, to see different languages not as a barrier, but an advantage to form an “us”.
