The global pandemic COVID-19 has disrupted almost every facet of human’s, and other living creatures’, lives. Naturally, the environment has also been affected by the sudden drop in highly scaled supply chain traffic and factory shutdowns. In the media, impactful images of decreased air pollution at unprecedented levels show us scenes that were not possible before – blue skies returning to Chinese cities and smog in New Delhi all but vanishing.

But what about the other 71% of the world that humans don’t regularly see with their own eyes?

What about the ocean?

The world’s oceans – their temperature, chemistry, currents and life – drive global systems that make the Earth habitable for humankind. How we manage this vital resource is essential for humanity as a whole, and to counterbalance the effects of climate change. Healthy oceans are inseparably linked to achieving sustainable development around the world, especially in Asia and the Pacific.

Do you have a passion for solving social challenges to improve lives? Do you want to leverage your skills and ideas in a diverse and high-energy setting to identify and attack issues in sustainability and inequality?

Join us on Ocean Day in Japan (‘Umi no hi’) for the first Save Our Seas Mini Jam, where innovators, entrepreneurs, and creatives will join other change makers around the world ONLINE to design actionable interventions toward achieving the Global Goal #14 Life Below Water.

The SOS Mini Jam is organized by FabCafe with the support of UNDP and the Digital Society School.

The SDGs — Sustainable Development Goals — started as an initiative of the United Nations in January 2016. SDGs are goals for sustainable development that the International Community have agreed to achieve by Year 2030. In the next 10 years, these will be regarded as the global “common language” adopted by all countries and regions to address efforts to solve social issues.

The SOS Mini Jam will be conducted under 3 underwater life sustainability-related themes, which are directly connected to the Life Below Water targets:
