Ishigaki Island new travel plan recruitment, examination result
In January 2015, a screening meeting for "USIO Design Project # 02 Recruitment of Travel Designers-Redesigning a Travel Only in Ishigaki Island" was held at two venues in Tokyo and Taipei (Taiwan). As a result of serious discussion and selection, we will introduce 10 Travel Designer Awards and 6 Good Idea Awards selected from 212 travel plans.
This project started with the theme, "I want to design a trip like never before, making the most of the local charm of Ishigaki Island." Before the selection of a unique travel plan from 153 people from different occupations, ages and places of residence, the judges had to worry for a long time in making the selection.
The points of discussion in the examination are the newness and feasibility of Ishigaki Island tourism, the affinity with the island culture and people, the topicality of planning, and the tourists from neighboring countries and Taiwan, which are the key to Ishigaki tourism. Appealing power. In the end, many travel plans were selected that could bring out the new value of the island from both a local and global perspective.

I chose a travel plan that did not directly say that "Ishigaki Island's nature is wonderful", but did convey it as a result. For example, an idea such as “Ishigaki Island becomes a stone” has the power to turn around even if you are not interested in the legend and history of Ishigaki Island. In addition, there are many plans where sake appears, and I was worried that Ishigaki people were just drinking. I have to go check it out.
There is an idea that I would like to adopt in the planning of the web media `` Daily Portal Z '' that I run, and if there is a possibility, I did not only realize the trip but also made an article on `` Daily Portal Z '' together I want to. As a continuation of last year's specialty product redesign project, this year's USIO Design Project is based on the theme of travel, and many people go on sightseeing trips to Ishigaki, and travel through culture, scenery and local agriculture. This project is based on experiencing resources, and aims to explore further possibilities by considering the viewpoint of tourists in a way similar to Design Thinking.
Among many works, there was an entry from Taiwan. You can see the differences due to differences in culture, which greatly contributes to the diversity of the project, and not only the planning and development process of the public participants, but also the general tourists' needs for traveling to Ishigaki Island. You.
I think this project has succeeded in diversifying and internationalizing ideas, and has given Ishigakijima and other local governments good tips in promoting various events.
In this participatory and open society, the idea of gathering everyone's ideas and continuing to scatter sparks to open up possibilities in the form of competitions is a positive project in terms of products, life, travel, and even business. I was able to create an environment that supported the idea and felt that it was a wonderful model for interactive development.

We are always looking for new travel ideas. I chose a travel plan that included interacting with the locals, inheriting traditional culture, sports, standardizing throughout the year, and approaching the issues facing the host.
For example, in Ishigaki, marine sports in the summer are standard nowadays, but it was good to be able to adopt sports trips of different seasons, such as cycling and bouldering, and there are many projects that will create interaction with people on the island It was wonderful. Tourist repeaters come with people. So an idea that interacts more and more with local people is really good. I want you to think, "Let's go see my grandfather and grandmother again."

Simplified messages are strong. It's easy to remember and imagine. If you want to convey something, it is common practice to simplify it. On the other hand, behind the simplified message is a truncated "that". And that's the only thing that makes people laugh laughingly and have a memorable experience in their minds.
In this open call for participants, the name “B side Ishigaki Island” was illuminated, and it was exciting to find a fresh way to enjoy Ishigaki Island. “Ishigaki Island is a stone”, “Ishigaki Stay realized by bartering”, “Making a mystery love story” is all unique and perverted (!). Sounds good.

Travel Designer Award
The next 10 people will actually implement a travel plan on Ishigaki Island as a travel designer (planned for February to March 2015). Each of the ideas received was excellent, but the judges gave their advice on a more specific and sophisticated itinerary. Let's brush up with the island people and USIO members as a travel design!
Title: "Integrating with Ishigaki Island! Hide-and-seek hide-away tour"
Creator: jyun (game designer): I am developing games as a director / planner. If you bring in play and rules, you will be able to become a game! Because you like planning, your own trip tends to be full of elements of historical tourism.
Concept : Keyword: Make your own × mix × find and walk
Outline of the trip: ● The ultimate nature experience tour that hides and seeks with the nature of Ishigaki Island. ● Travelers create their own hides that mimic the stones, grass, and sea of Ishigaki Island. Take a commemorative photo while blending into the island landscape. ● Publicize the photos on SNS and the official tour site. The quiz, “Where am I integrated with Ishigaki Island? Aiming to create a topic by word of mouth.

Internet-like laughter and island legend
At first glance, it's a strange idea, but in fact, Ishigaki Island has a famous legend that humans become stones. I don't know to what extent the author intended that point, but it's wonderful that people who are not interested in the legend and history of Ishigaki Island can approach it from a completely different perspective. Also, when I go out to a remote island far away, I also feel the internet-like laughter point where I can execute seemingly silly ideas.
When it comes to realization, first try to show an interesting picture, "Becoming a stone," and then express the story in the order, "Actually, a legend like this ...". A unique idea that you can feel the possibility of collaboration with "Daily Portal Z", a media sponsor of the USIO Design Project.
Title: "The ultimate shaved ice trip"
Creator: Mr. Shinichi Chiba (managed by company): Born and raised in a tourist spot, where he runs a restaurant. I am very happy with this project because I wanted to return to the origin and redefine the word “tourism”, which has become obsolete in such a situation. Tourism refers to seeing the light of the land. I designed a trip based on that. By the way, when I was in my 20s, my wife and I had traveled to Kuroshima, Taketomi and Ishigaki. I often remember that the ice zesty we ate on Taketomi Island and the pineapple we ate on Ishigaki Island were very delicious.
Concept: Keyword: Ishigaki Field × Search and Walk × Make Your Own
Outline of the trip: ● A trip to eat the ultimate shaved ice that can only be enjoyed on Ishigaki Island. ● Participants search and procure foods such as specialty fruits and sugar cane, and ice zenzai that has evolved independently on the island. ● The goal is to eat shaved ice packed with experiences of Ishigaki Island, including the search for ingredients and places to eat and make shaved ice.

Ultimate sweets with island ingredients
"Ice Zenzai" is a popular sweet on Ishigaki Island. Shaved ice that makes use of island ingredients, such as island bananas and honey, looks good and is likely to become popular. In winter it may be unique to use island vegetables.
However, from the viewpoint of Taiwan, where travelers to Ishigaki Island are increasing, Taiwan has more variety of fruit types and frozen desserts than Ishigaki Island. Rather than proceeding with an idea as it is, I would like you to take advantage of the knowledge of authors who have a proven track record in cafe management and food production, and sublimate to the project "To create the ultimate sweets utilizing island materials (not limited to shaved ice)". I hope to cooperate with local cafes, incorporate the specialty products of the first USIO Design Project, and try to bring out the appealing new food of Ishigaki Island.
Title: "Around Ishigaki Island"
Creator: Yuji Yamada (painter): I like riding bicycles (road bikes) myself, and I almost always take my bicycle with me when I travel and take a walk around the land. By the way, the longest distance of the day is 180km. I want to challenge more this year!
Concept : Keywords: Ishigaki Sea × Ishigaki Field × Ishigaki Mountain
Outline of the trip: ● A long ride event around the island and lake will be held in Ishigaki Island. ● The distance around Ishigakijima is 120km, and it appeals to those who take a long ride for the first time. ● Because it's a bicycle trip, you can easily stop by where you stopped. ● Experience using the five senses, such as the air and smell of the island.

Around the island with popular cycling!
Going around the island is a sense of accomplishment and attractive. In recent years, the popularity of bicycles as a sport in the Asian region has been increasing, and "bicycle trips" are attracting attention in Ishigaki Island. Tourists from Taiwan come to enjoy cycling in groups, and a large cycling event is held in November. Avoiding midsummer, the climate is warm, the ups and downs are moderate, and the scenery is beautiful, so cyclists have a good reputation. Island x cycling will be a world-class tourism resource.
In realizing your ideas, I'd like you to research and brush up on which season is best, what other factors will make it exciting, and how to clear up infrastructure related issues.
Evaluation and Implementation Advice from the Judges
Title: "Ishigaki Island Working Holiday-Let's become an islander and learn about deep Ishigaki Island"
Creator: Tohaku (employee): This is a proposal that I want to remove the framework of my previous trip, "pay money and buy an experience." He expressed the “unsatisfactory” he felt while visiting the stone wall. It is an idea that we really want to commercialize, not just an idea. For this reason, we challenged the design of the “mechanism” of the experience itself, rather than individual travel plans.
Concept: Keyword: Encounter x mix x create by yourself
Outline of the trip: ● A plan inspired by a “working holiday” where travelers travel while working locally. ● Travelers will help the islanders to provide one night accommodation and one meal. ● Experience the real life and scenery of Ishigaki Island that is not included in the guidebook.

Bartering for hospitality when you work
Not a one-sided volunteer, both travelers and islanders have benefits for each other, and it is a travel plan that can expect sustainability. There were several proposals for staying in villages and families on the island, but this idea was highly feasible and the point was that it would be an equivalent exchange. In fact, Ishigaki Island is certainly lacking in human resources, and if you can find a good partner, it will be a project that can involve the islanders well. It is likely to be popular among foreigners learning Japanese as well as traveling while working and learning Japanese.
However, "Working Holiday" is a formal system between nations, so we hope to brush up on naming and launching so as not to cause confusion with the actual system.
Title: "Grandfather, Auntie's" Song Trip "AR x Listen x Design Sympathy"
Creator: to + -san: For more than 10 years in community building utilizing contemporary art, for two years she was dispatched to the Tourism Exchange Division of the City Hall, where she had numerous landing-type sightseeing tours and inbound trips from neighboring Asian countries. He has experience in shaping new plans for local tourism, working with travel agencies and partnering with and implementing travel agencies. Currently, in various collaborations, he manages various businesses related to art and design.
Concept: Keyword: Searching sound x mixing
Outline of the trip: ● Cover and record the islanders at various times rooted in the region, such as festival songs, children's songs, and Toyone Great Fishing Prayer, and create AR (Augmented Reality) with photos. ● Through AR experiences, travelers get a glimpse of the wisdom and life that land has cultivated for generations. ● This is an opportunity to pass on “songs” that have been passed down on Ishigaki Island to the next generation.

Cut out Ishigaki Island with sound x digital archive
Sound, song, and music are attractive ways to experience Ishigaki Island's culture. If there is a mechanism that allows the recorded sounds to reach people outside the island, I think that I can raise interest and empathy for Ishigaki Island. The appeal of this plan is that travelers can enjoy a variety of island-like experiences through collecting music. The content of the application sheet has a specific image, and can be expected. However, there is room to consider whether AR is the best technology to express and convey them. Please visit that point and think again about the appropriate means of expression.
Title: "A sea (island) where anyone can climb a boulder by the sea to a place where climbers gather"
Creator: Mr. MABFILM (worker): Supports people who place climbing at the center of their lives. Shoot, edit, and publish videos. Providing wear and gear. MABFILM climbers will enhance each other's value and supporters will have a better climbing environment.
Concept : Keyword: Ishigaki Sea x High Climb
Outline of the trip: ● Ishigaki Island is becoming a hot spot for many experienced climbers, including the world-famous climbers setting the rocks on Ishigaki Island. ● There is an environment where even beginners can climb with confidence. ● A climb plan where climbers notice the charm of Ishigaki and other people can also find the charm of climbing.

Sports that bring new ways to enjoy the sea
It is attractive that Ishigaki Island's new sea (coast) is being effectively utilized through sports that will become increasingly popular in the future. Diving and other marine sports are mature enough as a tourism program, so we should aim for major activities as a new activity. In fact, although it is said that there are many bouldering rocks on Ishigaki Island, there are still few businesses on the island that support it. Considering the point of nurturing as an industry, human resource development and bids will be one of the issues.
Bouldering gyms are increasing in urban areas, but the places where you can climb rocks in the natural environment are limited, so if you are bouldering, your travel style like Ishigaki Island should attract attention. It is also necessary to make steady transmissions so that the travel style will take root.

Grandma goes around the stage of mystery novel
I would like to anticipate what kind of chemical reaction will be created by the combination of unique mystery novel writers and Ishigaki Island's grandmother. The way of using novels for tourism that would make you want to go to the story stage was fresh. By all means, I would like you to cover an elderly grandmother born and raised on the island, and to translate the stories from young days to the present into languages. For example, it would be interesting to become a very heavy and murky mystery love story. I would like to adopt it with hope as a new travel idea that reaches the culture and arts.

It is an easy-to-understand way of making a trip to become a master, and this is a particularly realistic and good proposal among the group of travel plans that involve people on the island. It's fresh to ask someone who works differently from you and you'll definitely find something. You can also feel pride and commitment to the person's work from the tips, and you will be able to see a part of the real life of the island. I'm looking forward to hearing any spills.
The distinctive role of work and being a disciple is appealing because both masters and travelers can communicate without burden. From a foreign tourist's point of view, they will be interested in techniques and craftsmen with local characteristics (although there is a language problem).

Creator: feng yu ting: A 28-year-old woman from Taiwan who loves traveling freely. Having been to Okinawa and Ishigaki Island, I loved the relaxed atmosphere of the island and loved the transparent blue Nomi (and delicious sea grapes) in Kabira Bay. I want to make traveling accessible to families with disabilities.

Barrier-free travel friendly to Taiwanese travelers
Some journeys are active, others are slow. The idea of feng yu ting, who lives in Taiwan, has a fascinating perspective focusing on barrier-free initiatives on Ishigaki Island. Although it is weak as a concrete proposal for traveling, it is important that people of various health conditions and ages can enjoy it. Many elderly people in Taiwan say, "I have a longing for Japan, but are afraid to travel to big cities." Ishigaki Island tours that specialize in barrier-free will be in high demand.
In Taiwan, where there are few types of fresh seafood, fresh fish is also popular. How about planning a barrier-free trip to Ishigaki Island for Taiwan in combination with the idea of Yao-Chi Liu, who also lives in Taiwan, who proposed experiences of nature and gastronomy. It is unusual for the jury to reverse propose a collaboration to different applicants, but I would like you to challenge the young and motivated young generations living in Taiwan to bring out the appeal of Ishigaki Island from a new perspective.
