STONEDALONE

STONEDALONE is the jewelry project of Wynn Mustin, a “cyber mystic” who 3d prints crystal based talismans and charms. Called to this purpose as a child of the Internet Age and because of her longtime involvement with the occult, Mustin creates cyber mystical talismans for our digitally obsessed moment in time.

Shamans and witches made the crystal talismans that conjured up the magic and good fortune of yesteryear, but I believe the crystal talismans we need in the Internet Age can be made by me, a self-proclaimed cyber mystic, on my secondhand Makerbot. The crystals are available in six different colors that offer the wearer mystical powers fit for our digital world: the pink crystal prevents digital love interests from disappearing back into the internet ether; the orange crystal attracts a dedicated online audience manifested in the form of social media followers and likes; the yellow crystal prevents text and email miscommunications even when Mercury is in retrograde; the green crystal provides support for sticking to fad diets and trends; the blue crystal promotes relaxation when your news feed is upsetting, and the purple crystal makes you appear Instagram-filtered in real life.

Throughout the “derivative 3d printing process” shown in the second half of the STONEDALONE introduction video, I mentally channel my mystical energy into the crystals to give them their power. Developed as my master's thesis, STONEDALONE explores the potential role of 3D printing in matters of spirituality and the occult, the creation of precious objects and jewelry, and the artificial recreation of naturally occurring resources like quartz crystals.
