In this pandemic situation, it is necessary to keep a distance from others. We can see transparent partition everywhere such as a store, restaurant, and cafe so on. Glass is one of the most conventional materials and it is used for separating indoors and outdoors. In a situation where the default condition and consciousness are changing every day, we have to rethink the concept of the relationship between inside and outside.
We focused on the wired glass, which is a building material. Wired glass is a very customary building material in Japan. It's obligatory to use for preventing big shards of glass when breaking. However, it is not designed just for function.
So we came up with the idea of designing a pattern for the wires. The pattern of the wire in the glass is cut out of a three-dimensional surface and has a mixture of regular and irregular patterns. The curves created by this process create beautiful geometric patterns. Depending on the density, the glass also acts as a blindfold film.
Since this combination of glass and metal conflicts with the physical properties and the aesthetic expressiveness of the substance itself, I was convinced that there are various possibilities of expression while
complementing each other by combining them. This time, the mockup was created assuming a flat glass, but it is expected that it will become even more interesting by expanding it to a three-dimensional shape. -
