And do you like Malivich?

And do YOU like Malevich?
The idea to animate the suprematic art is not new. A form of art, SUPERMATISM that was invented by Malevich in the beginning of 20th century was concerned merely with feeling, and not logical understanding. In order to appreciate a Suprematist composition the viewer has to engage with the work emotionally rather than rationally. During 20-21 centuries there was a number of attempts to do this. We are applying with our own concept of floating suprematic art.
And do YOU like Malevich? In order to like and understand a piece of art we need some kind of personal involvement, connection with the work. We suggest to see the movement behind the painting through our own PULSE. We have chosen the Malevich painting “Boy with Knapsack” to explore this concept. Two squares: one black and one red are floating on the imperfect opaque white background – or the fourth dimension, as the title suggests. These are the basic units of the Suprematist language that Malevich invented.
We created a painting reproduction. We used: LASER CUTTER StepDir 150x250, on that machine we cut plywood background and plastic gears. That mechanism allow the squares on the paining move. Our second step was programming! The stepper motor, Arduino board and a PULSE sensor was all installed and programmed to work together such as the speed of rotation of the mechanism depend of the PULSE of the user.
How WE understand our work? Is that a piece of art? Is that a psychological experiment? Is that a mere reproduction of the famous work by Malevich? Well …. we consider that is something in between!
The work is an installation and a performance at the same time. It can not exist without a user! As a result the geometry- the position of the original squares is always different – individual to the person who observe it. It is like each participant create his or her own painting!
