不定形で柔らかなひとつの大きな家具のような空間：
《人工地形》と名付けたこの作品は、輸送用コンテナの中をいわばくり抜いたような形で、不定形な洞窟状の空間をつくり出したものです。『神戸ビエンナーレ』の「アートインコンテナ国際コンペティション」に出品した作品で、柔らかい厚さ10mmのプラスチック素材を等高線形状に切り出して約1000枚積層しました。
われわれは普段、水平で平らな床、垂直で平らな壁、水平で平らな天井に囲まれて生活しています。ここにはふたつの問題があります。ひとつ目の問題は、空間がパーツに分けられていること。ちょうど機械が歯車の組み合わせでできているのと同じように。ふたつ目の問題は、どこもかしこも同じ形をしていることです。それに対して、この空間は、床と壁、天井の境目がなく、すべてが繋がっています。ちょうどわたしたちの体につなぎ目が無いのと同じように。また、ひとつとして同じ形の場所はありません。全てが特別な場所なのです。そのため、中に入った人は、思い思いに自分の体にフィットする場所を見つけて、座ったり寝転んだりしてくつろぐことができるようになっています。これ自体がひとつの大きな家具のような空間です。 -

A Big Furniture Like a Cave :
This is a project that was selected at the Art in Container International Competition in Kobe Biennial. Our idea is to hollow out the volume inside a shipping container in order to build amorphous space like a cave.
We usually live surrounded by horizontal floors, vertical walls, and flat ceilings. There are two problems here. The first problem is that the space is divided into parts. Just as a machine is made of a combination of gears. The second one is that everywhere has the same shape. On the other hand, in this space, there is no boundary between the floor, walls, and ceiling. Everything is connected, just as our bodies are seamless. Also, no single place has the same shape. Therefore, the person who goes inside can relax as each one wishes to his/her heart's content by finding the place suitable for the form of its own body.
This is not only art work but also one big furniture. Because all the portions are soft like a sofa. -

作品のサイズ：
スペースの大きさは間口2.4m× 高さ2.5m× 奥行き12m です。
素材：
この作品は柔らかなプラスチック素材のみでつくられています。
具体的には、厚さ10mm のカルプボード（ポリオレフィン系発泡樹脂板）を等高線形状にカットして積層することで、こうした複雑な形状の空間を実現させています。 -

The size of this space is 2.4m in frontage x 2.5m in height x 12m in depth.

What is a democratic experience?
There is no place in this space of the same shape. Every place is a special place. Therefore, the person who goes inside can find a place that fits the silhouette of his/her body and relax as each one wishes to his/her heart's content. In other words, it is a space where each person can discover how to spend time here, triggered by the difference in shape.
“Being given the freedom and the opportunity to discover how to use it each time and each place.” We think that is exactly the democratic experience.
