Brief concept description of the submitted project/idea
Woman Up is an economic, social and environmental movement brand inspired by Kloth Cares that is committed to improving the livelihoods of women, especially from the impoverished, struggling and vulnerable communities through job opportunities. Leaving no one behind, we uphold our core values and are driven to include women in the formal or informal sectors, including the physically impaired and with health challenges. Woman Up is also passionate to raise the standards of living, mental wellbeing and mojo amongst the youths and senior citizens.
This project is an extension of Kloth Cares which is an environmental, economic and social impact brand that is committed to catalysing the textile and clothing circular economy. Its approach in addressing textile waste is through the establishment and development of value chains and movements where multi-stakeholders join hands to divert waste from the landfills and in turn, waste is recycled into new products and resources with higher material value and purpose. -

Through the Kloth Cares Fabric Recycling Movement that is on a mission to keep fabric out of landfills, more than 350 units of Kloth Cares bins were installed across 5 states in Malaysia, including Klang Valley, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor. Kloth Cares has collected a total of 1,650,000kg in 35 months. That is equivalent to an estimate of 9.9 million pieces of t-shirts.
From the fabrics that we collect, good to use fabrics are segregated and upcycled into new products. Woman Up was an idea launched during the COVID-19 pandemic, 1.7.2020, to improve the livelihoods of women, particularly those from impoverished, struggling, and vulnerable communities, by providing job opportunities. All products that are sold by Woman Up are produced from second-hand denim, donated fabrics or fabrics made from recycled plastic bottles which are sewn by women from the B40 household income bracket. They are empowered and trained in the art of creative sewing as a way to uplift their earning potentials and livelihood.
As of September 2021, through Woman Up, more than 18,500 pieces of promotional merchandise was upcycled and sewn by the B40 ladies. The Woman Up clients include Coca-Cola, L'Oreal, Allianz, Recron, Aveva and more. At the end of their useful life, these products can be deposited into any nearby Kloth Cares bin where they will be recycled and revived for a renewed purpose. Incorporating these sustainable practices generates a circular economy for the textiles industry. -
