In 2020, The Berlin Wall is celebrating its 30th anniversary. In order to transform the sad history of the wall into a positive symbol, it has now been painted by artists and is one of the largest outdoor galleries in the world. However, because it is over 1 km long and too huge to take a photo, most of this amazing wall art is unknown. Most of the time, only a few of the most famous paintings are cut out and shown. Also, parts of the artwork are constantly being overlaid, so artworks on current issues is not permanent. In order to preserve these art works and to show the whole of the wall to the world, I have created "The Berlin Tape". This photo was taken by myself, using my iPhone in panorama mode, at a time when there were no tourists before trains running. Connecting this data, I have created this masking tape in order to transform a symbol of “separation” into a symbol of “connection”. The sale of this product will be donated to the preservation of the art on the Berlin Wall and to the people involved in the art. The product is going to be a life-time project, created each time the art work is updated.

When it comes to the coexistence of art and the city, Berlin is one of the most progressive cities. By decorating its inorganic walls with art, Berlin brightens up people's live, improves the art literacy of its citizens, and is a place for artists to develop their skills. In recent years, especially in Japan, the space for artists to express themselves has been shrinking while urban development continues. With this product, I aim to show the culture of Berlin, and at the same time to present to the Japanese public the symbiosis between art and the city.
