Navigating - Letting Visually Impaired People Wander Freely on Streets

"Navigating" is a system that informs visually impaired (VI) people about the surrounding infrastructure and buildings when they walk on the streets. By installing an add-on sensor to the current walking canes, VI people can receive audio navigation when they walk past the pavers embedded with NFC. The audio messages are uploaded by volunteering citizens.

This system enables VI people to know what is there when they enter a new area of their cities and provides the public with an accessible platform to contribute to the city life experience.
