A truly circular solution for the textile industry

Human Material Loop is a material innovation company focusing on the transformation and utilisation of hair waste into high-performing next generation materials for the textile industry. By utilising science they transform the strongest protein found in nature, keratin to planet positive materials. Founded in 2021 by Zsofia Kollar to lower the pollution of the textile industry and show that circular economy can be a reality.

On a mission to create a true textile revolution; to show that people are not above, but part of the ecosystem. Our aim is to raise the standards of bio-based fibers and provide a truly concrete impact in the textile industry. It is no secret that the textile industry is one of largest polluter in today’s world. Our very own hair can be the solution to this pollution. Together we can reduce soil degradation, water pollution, toxic poisoning, and put an end to the microplastic pollution that comes from wearing and washing polyester garments. Currently, western populations see a 77% chance of having microplastics in their blood, but it will soon be a guarantee. Tons of hair waste generated by hair salons is incinerated or landfilled. While hair is the same keratin protein fiber as other animal fibers currently used in the industry.

Our bodies are the biggest impact makers on the planet. We need to start rethinking what our bodies produce and how to take advantage of these resources.

Why |
+ the textile industry is one of the most polluting industries
+ we don't want plastics in anybody's blood & lung
+ land, soil and water shouldn't be degraded
+ animals are our friends and not our fur coat
+ cut off our emissions for the sake of this planet

Every technology that has been created served the comfort of humanity, and every disruption of the ecosystem was because of our comfort - we have been selfishly exploiting everything around us, but aren’t we part of this ecosystem after all? Why do we behave like we are above this ecosystem and believe we can exploit this system endlessly? We know it long enough that we cannot operate in the way we do today, recycled polyester is still releasing microplastic to our blood and lungs, vegan leather is still plastic, and we still poison over 5 million people every year with cotton pesticides - we can believe in the fairy tale that putting a band-aid to the problems will heal the problem itself, but it is your duty to look at your children’s eye to tell them, you didn’t push for a change.
