このプロジェクトは偶然の重なりによって生まれました。菌糸のプロダクト・建築可能性を探索するデザインスタジオと菌糸の微生物多様性に注目した企業が、だるまの新たなかたちを提案する高崎だるまの店と出会い生まれたものです。
MycoDarumaは、だるまと菌糸、そして微生物多様性の3つの文脈を持ちます。
1. 200年以上の歴史を持つだるまは、多くの伝統工芸と同様に衰退の傾向にあり、新たな価値を見出す必要があります。
2. 欧米では菌糸のレザーやプロダクトが増加傾向にありますが、日本での事例は僅少です。しかし日本の食用キノコの生産量は世界第2位であり活用の可能性を秘めています。
3. 近年、都市の微生物多様性の低下が問題視されています。過剰に除菌殺菌するのではなく、暮らしの中の微生物多様性を増加させることへの認識の転換が必要です。
MycoDarumaはこれらの問題意識から生まれ、従来の問題解決の論理を超えた多面的で革新的な文脈を作り出しています。

This project was born from a series of coincidences. A design studio exploring the product and architectural possibilities of mycelium and a company focused on the microbial diversity of mycelium met with the Takasaki Daruma store to create a new form of Daruma doll.
MycoDaruma has three contexts: Daruma dolls, mycelium, and microbial diversity.
1. Daruma dolls have a history of over 200 years, but like many traditional crafts, they are in decline. It needs to find new value.
2. mycelium leather and products are on the rise in Europe and the United States, but there are only a few examples in Japan. On the other hand, Japan's production of edible mushrooms is the second largest in the world and has potential for utilization.
3. In recent years, the decline of microbial diversity in cities has begun to be recognized as a problem. There is a need for a shift in perception of the need to increase microbial diversity in our daily lives.
MycoDaruma, born out of an accidental awareness of these issues, creates a multifaceted context that goes beyond conventional logic.

だるまは日本の民芸/工芸品です。これまで病気や災難を防いだりする万能な縁起物として多くの人の拠り所になってきました。MycoDarumaも縁起物として人々の暮らしに入り込みます。菌糸の微細なテクスチャが微生物を受容するため、人々の生活空間に微生物多様性をもたらし、生物多様性仮説に基づく無病息災という新しい縁起を持ちます。

【for Planet】
MycoDarumaは、菌糸とおがくずからなる生分解性で地球にやさしい素材です。従来のだるまのように年一回のお焚き上げ（火葬）をすることなく、土に還すこと（土葬）ができるようになりました。

【for Profit】
だるま産業ときのこ・菌糸産業に大きな可能性と新しい収入源を提示しています。これまでだるまの縁起や工法は、時代と共にアップデートされてきました。MycoDarumaは、菌糸による新たな工法と縁起のアップデートというだるまの新しい価値を創出しています。また、きのこ・菌糸産業においては、食用キノコやクワガタ飼育用の菌床に次ぐ産業としてプロダクトや建築への応用を提案しています。

Daruma dolls are a Japanese folk art/craft. MycoDaruma is also a good-luck charm that has become a part of people's daily lives. The fine texture of the mycelium is receptive to microorganisms, bringing microbial diversity into people's living spaces and bringing new good luck in the form of no illness or misfortune, based on the biodiversity hypothesis.

[for Planet]
MycoDaruma is a biodegradable and earth-friendly material composed of mycelium and sawdust. MycoDaruma can be returned to the earth (burial) without annual burning (cremation) like conventional Daruma dolls.

[For Profit]
The Daruma industry and the mushroom and mycelium industry present great potential and new sources of income.
MycoDaruma has created a new value for Daruma dolls by updating the method of mycelium production and the auspiciousness of Daruma dolls. In the mushroom and mycelium industry, MycoDaruma proposes the application of mycelium in products and architecture as the next industry after edible mushrooms and stag beetle breeding beds.

MycoDarumaはだるまの縁起の転換点となり、100年前の歴史として時代を表すプロダクトである。高崎だるまは天然痘の厄除けから生まれたが、時代によって意味や形を変えてきた。MycoDarumaは、持続可能性や循環型社会、微生物多様性の啓蒙として2023年の時代を表し、人々の意識を緩やかに変える力を持つ。
また、菌糸産業は山間部を中心に日本各地に点在し、今回使用した菌糸はだるまと同様に群馬県で生産されたものである。菌床農家とだるま店の新たな連携を作り出し、地域内で生産の循環を作り出すことが可能だ。だるま以外にも菌糸と工芸品の新たなバリューチェーンが生まれることも展望に挙げられる。

MycoDaruma is a turning point in the Daruma's auspiciousness, a product that represents an era as 100 years of history. The Takasaki Daruma doll was born to ward off smallpox, but its meaning and form have changed with the times, and MycoDaruma represents the era of 2023 as an enlightenment of sustainability, circular economy, and microbial diversity, and has the power to gently change people's consciousness.
In addition, mycelium industries are scattered throughout Japan, especially in mountainous areas, and the mycelium used in this project was produced in Gunma Prefecture, as was the Daruma doll. It is possible to create a new link between mycelium farmers and daruma stores and create a cycle of production within the region. In addition to Daruma dolls, another prospect is the creation of a new value chain between mycelium and crafts.

だるまは日本の縁起物であり、ご利益の期限は1年間である。そのため、一年の最後に仏閣でお焚き上げ（火葬）を行う。一方、MycoDarumaは菌糸とおがくずから形成されているため土に還る（土葬）。土や森からできたものが、一時的に人間の工芸品としての形を成し、お役目を終えると元の状態に還るようにデザインされている。自然を支配するのではなく、自然を借りる日本の自然観があらわれている。人間中心に止まらない、多元的な世界観でありマルチスピーシーズデザインを実践している。

Daruma dolls are Japanese lucky charms, and their benefits expire after one year. Therefore, they are burned (cremated) at Buddhist temples at the end of the year. MycoDaruma, on the other hand, is formed from mycelium and sawdust and therefore returns to the soil (burial). It is designed to be formed from soil and forests to temporarily take the form of a human artifact and return to its original state when it has completed its usefulness. This is a manifestation of the Japanese view of nature, which borrows from nature rather than dominating it. It is a multidimensional worldview that does not stop at human-centeredness, and it practices a multispecies design.

MycoDarumaは現在進行形のプロジェクトであり、異業種の連携によってできたプロダクトである。
日本における菌糸のプロダクトや建築の可能性を探索するデザインスタジオTelostekts、生物多様性の高い暮らしを目指し微生物解析などを専門とするBIOTA Inc.、前橋を拠点にアート作品も展開する電気工事会社のソウワ・ディライト、そして高崎だるまの生産を行い「デザイナーズだるま」などだるまの新しいかたちを提案する今井だるま店NAYAとのコラボレーションによって生まれた。
また、生活者とだるまの関係性もデザインしている。生活者が縁起物としてだるまを利用している裏で、空間を共にする微生物の棲家となるのがMycoDarumaである。生活者と微生物が当たり前に空間を共にすることを前提としたプロダクトである。

MycoDaruma is an ongoing project, and it is a product created through collaboration across different industries.
It was born through the collaboration of Telostekts, a design studio exploring the possibilities of mycelium products and architecture in Japan; BIOTA Inc., specializing in microbial analysis with a focus on promoting biodiversity in living environments; Imai Daruma NAYA, which produces Takasaki Daruma and proposes new forms of Daruma such as “Designer’s Daruma"; and Sowa Delight Co.,Ltd, an electrical engineering company based in Maebashi that also expands into art projects. Together, they have brought MycoDaruma to life.
The relationship between human and Daruma dolls was also designed. While human use Daruma dolls as good luck charms, MycoDaruma is a home for the microorganisms that share the space with them. MycoDaruma is a product based on the premise that human and microorganisms naturally share space together.
