Detailed explanation of the submitted project or idea (in English or both English and your language)
LiquiFill by Hotel Emporium is a groundbreaking liquid-filling machine designed to transform how hotel amenities are managed. The project began with Hotel Emporium’s Co-Founder and CEO, Andy De Silva, who had the vision to support hotels in achieving sustainability goals regarding reducing plastic waste and aligning with eco-friendly practices. LiquiFill actively works to alleviate this pain point with a refill solution for bath amenities—such as shampoo, conditioner, and lotion—which enables hotels to fill reusable containers in a seamless and efficient manner while eliminating plastic use.
It’s no secret that the hospitality industry is riddled with environmental issues. In fact, the hospitality industry is responsible for producing an estimated 289,700 tons of waste annually. Recognizing the environmental crisis, Andy made it his professional mission to bring a new level of sustainability to today’s hotels while also elevating both the modern guest and hotel staff experiences.
With over 20,000 hotels and resorts already partnered with Hotel Emporium, the product is poised to drastically reduce plastic waste across the industry in the coming years. LiquiFill aims to help hotels significantly reduce their environmental footprint and promote sustainable practices in the hospitality industry.
Hotel Emporium’s LiquiFill is set to be at the forefront of the movement toward eco-conscious hospitality and designed to reshape the industry by introducing new standards for sustainable hotel operations and creating a system that reduces waste without sacrificing luxury. -
How does your work address the 3 P’s (for Planet, for People, for Profit) for Sustainability?
Liquifill effectively addresses the 3 P’s of sustainability:
Planet: LiquiFill aims to reduce single-use plastic bottles in hotels significantly, which is considered to be one of the largest contributors to the global plastic problem. By offering the option of refilling hotel bath amenities, LiquiFill directly contributes in reducing plastic waste which in turn helps decrease the ecological footprint of hotel management. This will eventually help minimize the need for plastic manufacturing, preserving more resources and ecosystems.
People: LiquiFill is a major win for hotel staff, as the constant refilling process can be quite cumbersome (especially considering the number of rooms under management) and LiquiFill eliminates that need, equating to labor time saved and smoother operations. It further attracts the new uprising of eco-friendly travelers looking to stay at environmentally friendly establishments without compromising the hotel experience. It delivers to hotel guests a sense of responsibility and awareness, promoting sustainable choices.
Profit: LiquiFill cuts down the cost for hotels by eliminating expenses related to single-use plastic bottles, making procurement and waste management less costly. This adds to profitability while still adhering to high standards for guest service. Following the global trends in sustainability, LiquiFill also aids in growing a hotel's appeal and brand equity by enticing environmentally sensitive guests. -

Special Prize Question 1: "Empowering nature to create a new loop”: How does your work strengthen or support nature’s ability to capture and convert waste into valuable resources? How does your work advance industry practices by introducing nature-positive alternatives?
LiquiFill supports nature in capturing and converting waste as valuable resources by reducing reliance on plastic packaging. The product has taken advantage of circularity by nudging hotels to refill existing containers rather than discarding them after single use. This waste reduction directly benefits the ecosystems, as fewer elements of plastic end up in landfills and oceans. Moreover, LiquiFill encourages the hospitality industry to move towards nature-positivity through the development of a highly scalable model that other industries can look up to. It will further enable hotels to take an active lead in driving a global effort in waste reduction, enhance the cycle of reuse, and reduce harmful impacts on the environment.

Special Prize Question 2: “Regenerating ecosystems”: In what inspiring ways does your work contribute to the restoration and stabilization of natural ecosystems?
LiquiFill has contributed to the restoration process of ecosystems by reducing plastic pollution, which is one of the deadliest contaminants in natural environments. Hotel Emporium’s LiquiFill is reducing the direct burden on waste management systems and nature by offering an option that allows hotels to transition from single-use plastic bottles. As more hotels start embracing this model, the ripple effect on ecosystems becomes more substantial, reducing the amount of plastics that harm marine life and disrupt ecosystems. More importantly, LiquiFill contributes indirectly to more general ecosystem restoration by acting sustainably and respecting the health and stability of natural environments.

Special Prize Question 3: “Education and storytelling”: How does your work make complex bioeconomy concepts accessible and engaging?
LiquiFill is an easy gateway into understanding the bioeconomy, simplifying such complex concepts as waste reduction and resource efficiency. It tells a powerful story of how relatively minor changes in operational practices can have significant environmental impacts. By targeting the hospitality industry, LiquiFill captures a wider audience of hotel guests, including staff and stakeholders, in its sustainability education. Visual and operational transparency shows that a reduction in plastic waste would further contribute to creating a more sustainable future, thereby making sustainability concepts appealing. By embedding these values in daily operations, it encourages a shift toward conscious consumption and eco-friendly living.
