The Steampunk Butterfly Costume

This SteamPunk Butterfly pattern was made for a costume - I wanted to combine the intricacy of laser cut cardboard (sprayed with gold paint) with the beautiful green fabric of the dress and create an entire outfit made from butterflies. The headdress was made from branches with butterflies surrounding it, and the eyelashes were also the butterflies.

You can see all the photos here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/geekphysical/sets/72157629162864775/

We designed the gears with our own homemade gear generator software and drew the butterfly. For more information, see www.geekphysical.com

Its thinnest parts measure 1mm, so it should be ok to cut on a range of materials. It is laid out on a P2 template. The material used for these butterflies was thin cardboard and then they were spray painted gold.

The file includes the final butterfly as well as all the gear parts so you can move it around if you like. We use Corel Draw and then export to our laser cutting program.

Happy SteamPunk Butterfly designing :)
