Plastic shopping bags that are printed with bold graphics and texts have been a big part of the community since the 1980s. Different brands seek to communicate with their consumers through the use of these texts, simply by conveying messages such as “ Thank You” or “Have A Nice Day” in order to leave a memorable effect. We applied this idea along with our current mindset, to create a conversation with our customer through the use of QR code, which represents the current lifestyle of our customer. By scanning the QR code on their phone, the customers can access our website easily without having to type in any URL.


The choice of sustainable materials were selected to represent our brand’s awareness to the environment. The bag itself was woven with yarns that are reproduced from Recycled Plastic Bag - PE. While the QR code and Shibori inspired pattern on the bag are hand-tufted by using yarns that are made from Recycled Plastic Bottle - PET. The process of Recycled PET yarn is begun by collecting plastic bottle trash, commonly found in the Thai Ocean. These plastic waste then undergo a recycling process in order to be reproduced into usable yarns. We adopted the philosophy of the Circular Design System to make the most out of all the existing resources, and lower use of new supply. This process minimized the use of new energy up to 30% when compared to extruding yarns from Virgin Polyester.

This multipurpose bag consisted of two different sides. A huge QR code is visible on one side to create an impact, while a Shibori-Insipired pattern is hand-tufted on another side for a more relaxed aesthetic. The consumer is given the choice to decide which side best represents them on that day.
