Please describe the concept of your artwork in 2000 words.
Inspired by the common habit of bouncing one's leg or tapping your heel, the Restless Battery is a wearable battery pack that harnesses the kinetic energy of the body to produce electricity, which can then be used to charge a phone, light, or other device. The battery uses the scientific principle of Faraday’s law of induction, commonly utilized in emergency shake flashlights—as the user's leg bounces, it forces a magnet to move up and down through a wire coil, producing a small electric charge which can be stored in the battery. The Restless Battery aims to not only make use of energy that would otherwise not be used, but also to address the stigma that surrounds compulsive or habitual fidgeting movements.

The Restless Battery is an experimental design that democratizes the production of energy on a small scale. By providing people with the means to generate their own electricity using energy that would otherwise go to waste, this project endorses self-sufficiency and access to electronics such as our cell phones in the digital age.
