私たちが普段着る服にどれだけの資源が使われているか考えたことはありますか？
1着の服を作るために、 水2300l（お風呂11杯分）を消費し、 CO2 25.5kg（500mlペットボトル255本分）を排出しています。 さらに30年前に比べて、 服の購入量はほとんど変わっていませんが、 供給量は1.7倍まで増えています。
これだけ多くの資源を使って作られた服も、誰かが手放した後は再利用やリサイクルされて私たちの手元に戻ってくることはほとんどありません。ゴミとして出したものに関しては95%が焼却されてしまいます。 本当にこのままで良いのでしょうか？
廃棄物処理業者として働く私たちだからこそ、ごみのその後について考え、循環の輪に入るように考えるということはとても意義のあることだと信じ、この取組が始まりました。
いらなくなった衣服を回収し、リサイクルして資源に戻し、また衣服を生みだし、その衣服をまた回収する…そんな循環サイクルを目指します。
私たちのゴールは、製品を作ることではなく、服の循環を生み出し今後日本の文化になること。
この取組が 「ゴミになってからのこと。」 　「 なんでゴミになるんだっけ。」　様々な想いや考えを与えるきっかけになり、わくわくする未来を描いたり、ゴミに対するポジティブな印象を持ってくれることを期待しています。一緒に循環の輪にはいりましょう！

Have you ever thought how many resources are used for clothes we usually wear?
In order to make one clothing, we consume 2,300 liters of water (enough for 11 baths) and emit 25.5 kg of CO2 (enough for 255 PET bottles of 500 ml). In addition, the amount of clothes we purchased has hardly changed for 30 years, however, the clothing supply has increased up to 1.7 times.
Clothes made with such a large amount of resources are rarely reused or recycled after someone gives them away. As for those that are disposed of as waste, 95% of them are incinerated.
Is this really the way it should be?
Since we work as waste disposal companies, we believe that it is very meaningful to think about what happens to our waste and how it can be part of the recycling cycle, which is why we started this initiative.
We aim to create a cycle of collecting unwanted clothes, recycling them back into resources, creating new clothes, and collecting those clothes again.
Our goal isn't to make products. Our goal is to create a cycle of clothing that will become a part of Japanese culture in the future.
We hope that this initiative will become opportunities which give you various thoughts and ideas like ;“what happens after our clothes become waste?” “Why does waste become waste?” etc. , draw our exciting future and have a positive impression on waste. Let's join the circle of recycling together!

本取り組みは、昨年（2020年）会社の仲間と参加したmigakibaという環境省主催のSDGs研修に参加した事がきっかけでした。
地域循環共生圏の実践型研修ということで、 私たちは福島県いわき市を舞台に 「風景を耕す」　というテーマの元、 私たちの興味関心と福島県いわき市でどんな取組が生まれるかを約3か月間、現地チームや事務局の方々に発表 ・ フィードバックをもらいながら模索していきました。
私たちは廃棄物処理業の仲間で形成されたチームだったことから 「ごみ」 が共通して関心のあることでした。 いわき市の様々なごみに関連する社会的・経済的 ・ 文化的側面から調査していくと、 服の回収を行っているNPO法人ザ・ ピープルと出会い、 いわき市の古着の回収率の高さや古着をごみではなく資源という意識が強いいわき市民の方々の光景に衝撃を受け、福島県いわき市から服の循環について考えるのは面白いと感じました。
福島県というと原発や震災が頭をよぎるかもしれません。 しかし、 服の循環というポジティブな取組が福島県からスタートするという事にもすごく意義があると信じてます。 まだ取組は始まったばかりで未熟な点も多いですが、 限定した人だけでなく　「あなたのための取組」　という視点で取り組みたいと思います。

This initiative was triggered by our participation in the SDGs training program called “migakiba” organized by the Ministry of the Environment, with colleagues last year(2020).
As this was a practical training program for a regional recycling symbiosis zone, we explored our interests and what kind of initiatives could be created in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture, under the theme of "cultivating the landscape" for about three months, giving presentations and receiving feedback from the local team and the secretariat.
Since we were a team made up of colleagues in the waste disposal company, "waste" was our common interest. As we investigated the social, economic, and cultural aspects related to various types of waste in Iwaki City, we came across an NPO called “the People”that works collecting used clothes, and we were very surprised by the high collection rate of used clothes in Iwaki City and Iwaki citizens who have a strong awareness that used clothes are not waste but resources. We thought it would be interesting to think about the circulation of clothes from Iwaki City in Fukushima Prefecture.
When you think of Fukushima Prefecture, the nuclear power plant accident and the big earthquake may come to your mind. However, we believe that it is very meaningful to start a positive initiative called "Recycling Cotton Project" from Fukushima Prefecture. This initiative has just started, but we would like to work on it from the perspective of "an initiative for everyone ", not just for a limited number of people.
