Máquinas de lo invisible #3 Resonancia de partículas en el tiempo

Machines of the invisible are a series of devices for reading and amplifying different environmental magnitudes that have transformed our planet at a geological level since before the appearance of human beings. From experimental processes of translation and amplification of physical forces such as wind, erosion, changes in temperature and humidity, radiation, among others, this project unfolds as an exercise in terrestrial acupuncture taking the form of a series of site-specific sound, light and mechanical installations, performative experiences and the development of low-cost technologies and open source hardware.
The most recent activation of the series, Resonancia de partículas del tiempo, took place in southern Patagonia, Argentina, which embraces the materiality, temporality and memory of this area of the Patagonian desert. This exercise of puncture takes the phenomena of terrestrial erosion as a central point of reading and re-construction of this territory, its memory and geomorphology. It invites us to transfer our perceptions and sensorialities to millenary scales of geological space and time that escape the simple human sight. There, four machines, installed on a large rock on the edge of the desert, articulate a game with gravity by constantly dropping rocks. The blows and incrustations echo through the landscape as they erode this great natural monument over time. The functioning of these mechano-sound systems vary their behavior according to the reading of the movement of micro dust particles in the environment. This project was carried out within the framework of the Barda del Desierto Residence, taking the form of a site-specific installation and a ritual exercise -performance- that invited the community to share a space of intimacy between time and the matter of the desert, together with the collective memories and histories of its inhabitants.
