Naifactory is a transdisciplinary creative studio specialized in eco-design strategies and sustainable solutions to promote the circular economy in the creative industries. They offer their experience in research and innovation of biomaterials, produced in their laboratory from local resources, and collaborate with social labor.
Its most notable creation is Reolivar®, a 100% natural and biodegradable biocomposite, the result of years of experimentation with olive pits. Based on this research, a whole range of new materials have been developed from different food remains (wood ashes, coffee grounds, orange peels from onions or grapes, almond shells...) allowing the manufacture of a wide range of materials. variety of products for different uses taking advantage of these local resources.
The CIBICO® project was born as a result of the application of these new materials to visual communication. It is an innovative technological system in the field of sustainable ephemeral graphic communication, based on digital manufacturing, the use of organic waste, natural dyes and social labor. Its objective is to introduce biomaterials as an alternative to the usual supports made with plastic materials (methacrylate, PVC, Polycarbonate, etc.) and thus eliminate the waste generated by the retail and events sector. -

Special Prize Question 1: Is there a mechanism in place to inherit culture and industry as assets for people living in that area 100 or even 1000 years from now?
The approach of CIBICO® and Reolivar® goes beyond sustainable production. These projects focus on the transfer of knowledge and awareness through practical example, workshops with students and collaborations with local artists and designers. The goal is to raise awareness and educate about sustainability, generating a cultural change in the short, medium and long term. These projects promote sustainable practices, including the use of biomaterials and raising awareness about environmental and social issues, promoting the circular and regenerative economy and the transformation of habits in the community.

Special Prize Question 2: What is the positive impact on biodiversity? Is the project creating a cycle not just from a human-centered perspective but for the entire ecosystem?
CIBICO®: The events and retail sectors have a great demand for graphic communication (posters, signage, flyers, cards, etc.) and in a short time all this material ceases to have any use and becomes garbage that in most cases it cannot be reused or recycled.
Common materials such as vinyl canvas, PVC, polycarbonate, methacrylate are highly polluting and others such as paper also end up being polluting due to the use of printing inks.
Alternatively, CIBICO® is a system that allows creating graphic communication supports with biomaterials made from organic waste in a sustainable production system with a low carbon footprint based on the principles of circular and regenerative economy. Using an easily scalable process and applying digital manufacturing technologies such as laser engraving, the use of inks is avoided, thus allowing the recycling of the product once its function has been fulfilled and the materials reused to produce new projects, thus completely closing its life cycle.

Special Prize Question 3: Are you enabling new forms of collaboration with others? New forms of collaboration might include cross-industry cooperation, co-creation with consumers, or role transformations within the supply chain.
With these two projects Naifactory proposes a new type of relationship between production industries with an innovative perspective, which connects the food production industries of the different phases of the value chain of our food system (not only primary production, but also in other links of the system where food waste exists, such as transformation, distribution or consumption) by using food waste as a valuable resource for creative industries in the development of products for the events and fairs industry, ephemeral architecture, or interior design products, building signage and others.
This new perspective promotes closing the food production cycle by contributing to the creation of a new completely circular production mechanism, responding to the challenge of promoting cooperation between industries and calling on consumers to co-create this system, using their voice. and its power of transformation by demanding this type of practices (using food waste) in the environment of creative industries and promoting transformations in the roles of traditional production in both sectors, going from being actors that are part of the problem to being active actors. of the solution.

According to the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, in 2022, 1.17 million tons of food scraps were thrown into the trash throughout Spain, a product of the waste generated by our food production system from the industry to our homes. This food waste represents not only an economic loss, but also a serious environmental impact. However, in the midst of this problem, two innovative solutions emerge: CIBICO® and Reolivar®, two projects led by Naifactory that promote the regenerative circular economy and sustainability in the creative industries and in society in general.
